When taking out insurance for their dogs, many owners don’t think beyond the cost of treatment for illness or injury. Third Party Insurance is an element of Pet Insurance which comes into its own if your dog is involved in an incident with another dog, or a person. 

So, what is Third Party Liability Insurance for dogs?

Third Party Liability is included as standard with any Healthy Pets Dog Insurance policy. It covers you if your dog was to:

• Injure another dog
• Injure a person
• Damage or break somebody else’s property

Claims against you may not always be the result of your dog behaving aggressively. If, for example, your dog was to run out in front of a car, accidentally damage an object in someone’s house, or cause an injury during a particularly enthusiastic greeting, you’d be liable and have to pick up costs associated with the incident.

All Healthy Pets Dog Insurance policies provide Third Party Liability cover to the value of £1 million. However, unfortunately, if your dog has shown aggressive tendencies, we won’t be able to offer cover.

What does Third Party Liability cover?

If your dog doesn’t have a history of aggression, a Healthy Pets policy will cover:

• Vet fees
• Damage repair costs
• Legal fees

How much does Third Party Liability Cover cost?

As with all Pet Insurance policies, the cost depends on the age, breed, and overall health of your dog. All Healthy Pets Dog Insurance policies provide Third Party Liability cover as standard, so get a quote for a personalised premium. Remember, if your dog has a history of aggression, we won’t be able to insure them.

Do Cat Insurance policies include Third Party Liability cover?

There’s currently no legal third-party liability requirement for cat owners whose felines are involved in or cause an accident.
