Why should I consider Dog Insurance?
By insuring furry friends against the unknown, pet insurance for dogs offers owners peace of mind. As well as covering your canine should they have an accident or get sick, your policy may also offer further benefits including cover for advertising costs if your dog goes missing.
Veterinary fees can mount up very quickly, particularly if your dog suffers an injury or illness. Having a dog insurance policy helps you cover the costs of treatment and medication, so you can concentrate on making memories with your canine.
It’s still very important to take proper care of your dog and do all that you can to keep them in good health, including giving them a balanced diet, taking them for their annual vaccinations, and scheduling regular check-ups with your vet. your dog insurance policy is there just in case, as it can help to prepare for the unexpected.
What does my Dog Insurance cover?
At Healthy Pets, we know that choosing the right policy for you and your dog is paramount. That’s why we offer six distinct levels of cover. From Accident Only and Maximum Benefit Cover to Lifetime Policies, we’re here to try and help you find insurance that suits your needs. Please note, pre-existing conditions are not covered by new policies.
Subject to your chosen policy level’s cover limits, your Dog Insurance may be able to cover the following:
Veterinary fees
Depending on your chosen policy, Dog Insurance covers illness and injury-related veterinary bills up to the policy limit in each year, or the lifetime of your pet. Please note, Accident Only excludes illness cover.
Advertising and reward costs
To help get your dog back to you as quickly as possible, your policy could cover the cost of advertising materials and an authorised reward if they go missing.
Boarding kennel fees
If no one can look after your dog due to you, or a member of your family, being hospitalised for more than four consecutive days, your policy may be able to cover kennel fees.
Holiday cancellation costs
If, within seven days of your departure date, your dog requires life-saving surgery and you have to cut short or even cancel your holiday as a result, holiday cancellation charges may be covered as part of your policy.
Overseas travel
If your dog enjoys travelling abroad with you, your Healthy Pets policy can include cover for them to travel within the EU as part of the Pet Travel Scheme.

How much will it cost to insure my dog?
There are several factors which dog insurance policies are based on, all of which can affect the price offered, these include but are not limited to:
Dog breed
Premiums can be higher for pedigree or pure-bred dogs as they are at a higher risk from specific illnesses and injuries.
Age
Your dog is more likely to suffer from age-related illnesses as they get older. However, even young dogs aren’t in the clear completely, as they may like to roam further afield and injure themselves in the process.
Level of cover
The price that can be offered will be affected by the chosen policy level. A lower veterinary fee limit and fewer added benefits may result in a lower premium than that of a policy with a higher veterinary fee limit and more added benefits.
When will you not insure my dog?
We are unable to cover any conditions for which your pet has had symptoms or received treatment, medication, or advice at any time prior to the policy. Any signs, symptoms and conditions presented within 10 days of the pet insurance start date will be excluded at the start of the policy. This will not affect your premium and there is no small print catch with Healthy Pets.
Similarly, your policy insures against accidents and illnesses. Routine or preventative treatments, such as vaccinations, flea treatments, spaying / neutering, or worming, are not covered.
Healthy Pets cannot cover new dogs if they are aged 11 or over at the time of the quotation. However, if your dog is already insured with us, we will continue to provide cover irrespective of their age, subject to premiums being kept up to date and the policy with us being renewed. Healthy Pets will also not be able to insure your dog if they have been used for commercial guard, security, or racing; shown aggression or behavioural issues; or had any third-party claims made against them.
