When we think of the RNLI most of us would assume that it would be a person that would need rescuing, but in this case it was a Staffordshire bull terrier named Storm.

Storm the dog was rescued off of the Lincolnshire coast on Saturday afternoon by the Skegness RNLI crew, after getting into difficulty whist swimming in the Sea. When the crew arrived they spotted Storm clinging to a kite surfer who had happened to come across the dog.

The lifeboat Helmsman Dean Sumner commented on the rescue:-

"The poor dog was absolutely exhausted by the time we had reached him, once the kite surfer had let him go he bobbed below the surface and that was when we were able to grab him. He was very cold and other members of my team were able to quickly warm him up and bring him round a little".

After a very shaky ordeal Storm was taken to the boat house for a warm shower and a dry, and then later walked away with his owner.

Dean also went onto say:-

"In this instance Storms owner did the very best thing by calling the Coastguard for help. The worst thing pet owners can do in these types of situation is enter the water to help their distressed animals, things can quickly go wrong and we dont want people putting themselves in danger".
