Many dog owners may have been prevented from popping into a pub for a drink and a bite to eat because man's best friend isn't allowed in. A new and popular concept for many pub owners is to welcome our four legged friends in too with doggie drinks and menus.
One pub in Newcastle 'The Brandling Villa
' has taken the idea a step further, not only providing a dog menu but also selling special beer especially designed for dogs.
The non- alcoholic beverage is made of hops, malt and meat extract. Due to popular demand the Brandling Villa had to restock quickly after 48 bottles of pet beer sold out in a fortnight!
Manager Dave Carr has a beagle named Franco who hasnt exactly warmed to the beverage ironically.
Mr Carr said:
'Everyone else's dogs love it. We have some regulars: shell have a Sauvignon Blanc, he has a pint of Budvar, and Charlie the dog has a dog beer. That's his regular drink.
'People seem to think its a bit mental - we keep it in the fridge along with other beers and they ask what it is. People think it's just a normal beer with a ridiculous name.
'I scoped the internet looking for ridiculous stuff, and we became dog-friendly. There aren't many pubs you can go to with your dog.
Another charming and humorous touch to this doggie menu is a Sunday roast for dogs served with cat gravy (a beef stock with fish sauce). To finish off the meal they also have a special canine dessert menu as well!
Hopefully this will ease the life of many dog owners especially if they are on holiday with their pets. More establishments in the UK and beyond are popping up, including hotels especially for pets.
