Pet Insurance Policy Summary

Type of Insurance and Cover

 
Insurance for cats and dogs only.

This insurance provides cover for veterinary fees, death from injury *, advertising and reward *, theft or straying *, boarding kennel fees*, and holiday cancellation*. Third party liability cover is provided for dogs only. *Silver and Gold policies only


Cover is available in three categories – Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected and the policy wording will show which limits apply to each level of cover.


This is an annual insurance contract providing twelve months continuous cover. Your policy schedule will show the date your cover starts and ends.


This policy will be governed by the law of England and Wales, unless we have agreed in writing otherwise.


General Condition


You must ensure that your pet has received the required vaccinations, failure to comply with this may jeopardise your claim or cover - please refer to the general conditions applicable to the whole policy in the policy wording.
 
Throughout any period of insurance you must take all reasonable steps to maintain your pets health and to avoid injury, illness, bodily injury, death, loss, theft, straying (dogs), damage or destruction. You must also arrange and pay for your pet to have a yearly dental examination and any treatment normally recommended by a vet to prevent or reduce the risk of injury or illness.

Significant Features or Benefits and Significant Exclusions or Limitations.


Section 1 - Veterinary Fees

All reasonable costs for treatment of your pet by a vet due to accident, illness or disease up to £1,000, £4,250 or £7,500 – Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.

Exclusions Under Section 1 of the policy wording

Claims not reported within 60 days of occurring. Claims for illness occurring within 10 days of inception (not including renewals).
Cost of dentistry (unless as a result of an accident) or fees in connection with training or behavioural problems unless caused as a result of an insured incident.
Costs arising from preventative and elective treatments, routine examinations, vaccinations, spaying, castration, pregnancy or giving birth.
Costs following death (eg burial / cremation) .
Fees for unapproved alternative medicine.

 
Section 2 - Third Party Liability (Dogs only)

Legal liability up to £1,000,000.

Exclusions Under Section 2

Any loss or damage to property in the ownership custody or control of you or a member of your family or persons permanently residing with you.
Liability where indemnity is provided under any other insurance or security effected by you, unless the cover under such other insurance or security has been exhausted. 
 
 
Section 3 - Death from Illness

The purchase price of your pet up to a maximum of £1,000 if it dies or in the event of humane destruction by a vet to alleviate incurable and inhumane suffering following an illness or disease. Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.

Exclusions Under Section 3

Not applicable to Dogs 9 years of age or more and cats 11 years of age or more

If no purchase receipt is available, replacement cost will be that of a similar pet.

Any claims for a pet under age of eight weeks

Any claim if the death results from illness first occurring or showing clinical signs before cover starts or occurring with the first 14 days of the start of cover. 


 
Section 4 - Death from Accident

The purchase price of your pet up to a maximum of £1,000 if it dies or in the event of humane destruction by a vet to alleviateincurable and inhumane suffering following an illness or disease. Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.
 
Exclusions Under Section 4

If no purchase receipt is available, replacement cost will be that of a similar pet.

Any claims for a pet under age of six weeks.

Any claim if the death results from an injury that happened before your pet’s cover started.


 
Section 5 - Advertising and Reward

Up to 1,000 for the cost of local advertising and a suitable reward for recovery of your pet if your pet is lost or stolen. Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.

Exclusions Under Section 5

Any claims for a pet under age of six weeks
Any reward to a person living with you.

 
Section 6 - Theft or Straying

The purchase price of your pet up to £1,000 if it is permanently lost due to being lost or stolen and no recovery has been made within 45 days despite advertising and the offer of a reward. Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.

Exclusions Under Section 6

If no purchase receipt is available, replacement cost will be that of a similar pet.

Any claims for a pet under age of six weeks.

Any claim if your pet is recovered within 90 days of the theft or straying.


 
Section 7 - Boarding Kennel Fees

Up to £1,000 in total for boarding your pet if you or a member of your family permanently living with you is hospitalised on medical advice for more than 4 days. Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.
 
Exclusions Under Section 7

Any claims for a pet under age of six weeks.
 
 
Section 8 - Holiday Cancellation

Any non-recoverable travel and accommodation expenses up to £2,000 if you have to cancel or cut short your holiday because your pet needs emergency life saving surgery within 7 days of your departure or whilst you are on holiday. Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.
 
Exclusions Under Section 8

Any claims for a pet under age of six weeks.

 
Section 9 - Accidental Damage

Up to £500 for any liability that you become legally responsible to pay due to accidental damage caused by your pet. Your policy schedule will show which level of cover you have selected.

Damage to any motor vehicle or its contents.

Damage caused by your pet vomiting, fouling or urinating.

Damage while your pet is left in a home without an adult present.

Any claims for a pet under age of six weeks.

Cancellations Procedures


If you wish to cancel this policy within 14 days of receipt of the policy documents You may do so by writing to us. Where this happens You will receive a proportionate refund of the premium paid for the unexpired portion of the period of cover less any agreed charges, unless a claim has been made and then the premium in full must be paid.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme (‘FSCS’)

You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme in the unlikely event they cannot meet their obligations to you. This depends on the type of insurance and circumstances of the claim.
