A man from Birmingham has been charged with a 3 month jail sentence after RSPCA officers and police raided his home on the 24th February this year. Officers found two pittbull’s and one bull terrier in the back yard of his home that had obviously been trained for fighting purposes.
Chief inspector Ian Briggs from the RSPCA said “Mohammed Nasir is the latest dog fighter to find out that the courts take offences of this nature extremely seriously and that anyone caught can face time behind bars.” (more…)

The number of Akitas severely diminished during the Second World War because the Japanese used them as food and their fur used in clothing. A police dog from Derbyshire police force has been given an award for 9 years of long service. During his service Tommy the springer spaniel was used as a detection dog in some 700 firearms and drug searches.
Tommy’s career started when he was just a year old and within just four weeks he was out in the field. Within minutes on his first job Tommy had found cannabis stashed in a vacuum cleaner and in a freezer.
At that moment Tommy’s handler PC Phillips said: “I knew straight away he was going to be a good dog.
The spaniel’s ability to nose out evidence has helped Derbyshire police put many criminals behind bars. (more…)
