Breed History – This French breed of dog takes its name from the region of the same name in Northwest France and were first conceived in the 1800s, and first recognised as a breed in the early 1900s. Breed History – A large breed of dog originating from the Swiss Alps, the Bernese Mountain Dog were used by alpine herders to help protect their stock. Breed History – This playful Cuban dog has links to the Bichon tree of canine, and as a dog is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. At the time of the Cuban Revolution, many Havanese were slaughtered, but a few managed to survive the slaughter and their owners took them across to America where they began to thrive once again. Breed History – Everybody loves a Dachshund, and it is easy to see why. Their distinctive looks have gone a long way to making them one of the most popular breed of dogs today. Of German origin, their short legs and elongated shape have been developed over the years to aid them in burrowing when hunting rabbits and badgers. Interestingly enough, whilst their name is a German word, in that country that are typically known by the name Dackel or Teckel. (more…)
