Breed History – Known widely as a ferocious guard dog, modern day Rottweiler’s actually come from a background as a herding dog, guarding farmer’s sheep and other livestock in Roman times. Although you can still find examples of Rottweilers still carrying out this role around the world, these days they are also used for many purposes, including the aforementioned guard dog and also as a loyal family pet. Breed History – This ancient Chinese and Tibetan dog is one of the world’s most famous companion breeds. The direct translation of its name means ‘Lion Dog’ in Mandarin. There is some debate as to the country where the dog originated from, and whilst it is known as a Tibetan Lion Dog in some circles, Chinese authorities have outlawed all such references to this in their country.
